Leadership
I am an empathetic and empowering leader and a fierce advocate for content in digital product teams. My team at Fidelity was the most inspiring and supportive group of people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. They collaborated to solve problems, they mentored each other, and they were comfortable asking one another for help or advice. And wow, were they talented strategists and writers!
I learned a lot from them and hopefully passed on a nugget or two of knowledge along the way. I encouraged leadership within the team, whether it was mentoring a junior teammate, leading a project outside the day-to-day, or working with me on special assignments. It’s important for people to be able to lift their heads out of details and continue to learn and grow their skills. I encouraged the team to explore their passions and helped them find opportunities to deepen their skills in those areas.
I have good hiring instincts and look to build teams with diverse talents and backgrounds. There’s magic in diversity of thought! Creating inspiring teams doesn’t happen overnight or without a great investment in recruiting. I am dedicated to investing the time and effort to hire, onboard, train, and mentor great content strategists, content designers, and UX writers.
Areas of oversight
During the last 4 years, I oversaw 6 domains. I worked on all of them at the same time, which was… well, a lot. I implemented de facto team leads for each domain to help alleviate the number of meetings I had to attend. I trained them in leadership and management skills and had them filter a lot of the day-today information up to me to I could stay focused on higher-order thinking and strategy for the team.
I was ultimately able to persuade leadership that my span of control was too broad and we promoted these leaders into official Team Leader roles reporting to the Head of Content.
Don’t just take it from me
